The Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research has given a $3.1 million grant to The Nature Conservancy for use in grassland conservation efforts across the U.S. and Canadian Great Plains, the organization announced Monday. The Great Plains is considered a priority landscape for TNC. A TNC document says 1.9 million acres of grassland were converted into row crops in 2022, limiting biodiversity and carbon sequestration. To conduct the research, the conservancy will identify interventions in grassland conservation, compile grassland change trends, and explore grassland retention strategies and agroecosystems. TNC will be collaborating with several partners in its research, including Colorado State University, Cornell University, the University of Alberta and Michigan State University.
