Once a week, I post a meme on social media meant to encourage my friends in their relationships with others. This week’s meme was a simple statement that said, “The biggest communication problem is we do not listen to understand. The Hebrew word for listen is “shama” and can be translated “hear” or “to perceive sound.” “Shama” unpacked means “listening, taking heed and responding with action to what one has heard.” Likewise, listening and really hearing the thoughts of your spouse, your children, and your friends will produce lasting relationships that will not easily be broken.
