One person is dead after a vehicle was driven off the road on Walpole Island First Nation and into the St. Clair River. The Ontario Provincial Police said emergency crews responded to the single-vehicle collision on River Road just before 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, an 84-year-old from Walpole Island, was pulled from the river and pronounced dead at the scene. River Road was closed between Sands Lane and Chiefs Road for several hours to allow police to conduct an investigation, which remains ongoing.
