Visit Southwest Michigan has completed its purchase of the former United Federal Credit Union building in downtown St. Joseph, giving the organization once known as the Southwest Michigan Tourist Council a new high-profile headquarters. Visit Southwest Michigan announced it was purchasing the building at Broad and Main Street and across from St. Joseph City Hall back in May. Visit Southwest Michigan sought out the United Federal building after previously-announced plans to open a welcome center at the Nye’s Apple Barn site in St. Joseph Township fell through. Visit Southwest Michigan Director Marcy Simpson says the organization envisions the new building becoming a welcoming hub that showcases everything the region has to offer while strengthening relationships with tourism partners, businesses, and residents. Visit Southwest Michigan expects to announce additional information about renovations, programming, and the building’s future use in the coming months.
