Replica Wren locomotive visits Staffordshire railway
['Roger Smith']
RailAdvent
The Apedale Valley Light Railway at Chesterton, Staffordshire, has welcomed the arrival of Jennie, a replica of a “Wren” type Kerr, Stuart diesel locomotive.
Jennie was built by Hunslet Steam at Statfold near Tamworth, Warwickshire, in 2008 as a modern version of the Kerr, Stuart “Wren” design.
The last original “Wren” type Kerr, Stuart diesel locomotive was built in 1941, although locomotive builder Hunslet had taken over Kerr Stuart in 1930.
Originally named Howard, it was renamed Jennie after the name of its owner’s wife at the Amerton Railway in Staffordshire on 26th December 2008.
As well as visiting the Apedale Valley Light Railway, other railways that Jennie has visited include the Leighton Buzzard Railway in Bedfordshire, the Hollycombe Steam Museum at Liphook in Hampshire, and the Maldegem Stoomcentrum in Belgium.
