This week Judge Ann Aiken of the Oregon District Court ruled this case can move forward in Oregon. Boyce has a large social media following, which Owen asserts Boyce “weaponizes” to engage in “cyberbullying.” In contrast to Askew or Owen, Boyce is not involved in the hair accessory business. It appears this is a case of an angry online sales competitor essentially hiring a digital hitman to undermine the competition. It’s not like Askew just left some mean comments herself; she had a digital media influencer coordinate a virtual mob to do the same.
