Dorset Police have issued a warning following the theft of lead flashing from a church in the Christchurch area, which resulted in more than £1,000 of theft and damage. Churches are considered frequent targets due to the value of metals like lead, copper and stainless steel. Thieves often target roof coverings, rainwater pipes, and lightning conductors. They recommend practical security measures such as gates, fences, bollards, security lights, CCTV and roof alarms. Churches are also advised to mark metals with forensic security systems and to publicise the use of these as a deterrent.
