As announced earlier this week, the U.S. Forest Service on Thursday reopened 41 entry points to the Boundary Waters, in the central and eastern areas, for day use and overnight camping on Thursday. About 430,000 acres are now open, about 39% of the Boundary Waters. The owner of Tuscarora Lodge & Canoe Outfitters had visitors in the bunkhouse Wednesday night and at the French toast breakfast served daily. John Fredrikson, of Gunflint Lodge and Outfitters said there is incorrect information circulating about conditions on the northeast side of the Boundary Waters. There is camping available outside of the BWCAW, and it's close enough to paddle in for day trips, he said.
