More than a hundred firefighters are tackling a wildfire in Suffolk, UK just a few miles away from the Sizewell nuclear power station. A major incident was declared after Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service was called to heathland to the south of Dunwich early Wednesday evening. Northwest Spain and northern Portugal have been particularly affected as multiple new fires took hold over the last 24 hours. On the other side of the continent, gale-force winds fanned flames across the Greek islands, and there were multiple fatalities in Crete. We are on the ground in southwestern France, where the blaze is starting to die down, but the devastation left behind is becoming clear.
