Te Arikinui Calls Leaders To Turn Taiao Kōrero Into Collective Action29 July 2026More than 100 leaders, academics, environmental practitioners and community representatives gathered at Maketū Marae in Kāwhia for the inaugural Ruku ki Taiau: Living with Nature wānanga. Pita Te Ngaru challenged participants to move beyond kōrero and begin the practical work required to restore the taiao. The wānanga brought together expertise spanning mātauranga Māori, environmental science, iwi governance, voyaging, research and community-led action. Rahui Papa, spokesperson for Te Arikinui, said the series would continue to focus on translating shared knowledge into measurable action. “The time has come to turn discussion into demonstration, challenges into tested solutions, and individual effort into collective action,” he said.
