Crews were called to a grass fire near Berwick Pond Road about 3.25pm today (July 30), where the blaze spread over approximately six hectares. Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control within two hours and used water backpacks and wildfire beaters to tackle remaining flames. This fire follows a similar blaze near South End Road in Hornchurch, which required eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters. The London Fire Brigade's Terrain Support Vehicle was sent to the scene at Berwick Pond, providing off-road capability and additional firefighting equipment. The fire was reported to the Brigade's Control Officers at 3.25pm, and fire crews from Addington, Enfield, Bexley, and other nearby stations were mobilised.
