Nairobi, 30 July, 2026 / 11:50 pm (ACI Africa). Catholic Sisters serving in the legal profession across Africa have been challenged to embrace their legal expertise as a prophetic ministry that advances safeguarding, justice, and the protection of human dignity, with a call to ensure their witness transforms both the Church and society. Delivering the keynote address at the opening of the July 30–31 Conference of Catholic Sisters in Legal Profession (CASILEP) in Nairobi, Associate Vice President for Program Operations and Head of Catholic Sisters at the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, Sr. Jane Wakahiu, said the vocation of Catholic Sisters working in canon and civil law goes beyond legal practice to becoming agents of Gospel-inspired transformation. She added, “As regular professionals, and all those who are here, you place compassion, mercy, truth, and justice at the forefront of your service. Convened under the theme, “Prophetic Witness of Catholic Sisters in Canon and Civil Matters: Learning, Connecting and Building a Community of Practice for the Common Good,” the two-day gathering has brought together more than 55 Catholic Sisters serving as canon and civil lawyers from across Africa.
