"Catholic Sisters embody prophetic witness by defending human rights, advocating for justice, accompanying the poor and marginalized, promoting peace and reconciliation, and caring for our common home," she said.
Describing the conference as "timely and necessary," Sr. Luciana said religious communities increasingly need sound legal knowledge and collaboration to respond wisely to emerging challenges.
"Justice, accountability, and integrity: this initiative is needed today more than ever," she said, expressing confidence that the partnerships and discussions fostered during the conference would strengthen Religious Life in Africa and beyond.
Addressing Major Superiors of ICLSAL in attendance, the Kenyan member of the Visitation Daughters of Mary (VDM) encouraged them to view legal knowledge as an essential dimension of stewardship rather than merely a means of resolving internal disputes.
"Legal knowledge is not only about resolving issues between members and their Superiors, or vice versa," she said.
