The National Park Service will present the History at Sunset program “Marching Home: US Colored Troops Veterans in Kentucky after the Civil War” at Huntertown Community Interpretive Park on Saturday, August 8 at 7:00 pm. Huntertown was an African American hamlet founded in 1871 by Woodford County USCT veteran Jerry Gatewood who joined the Union Army at Camp Nelson in 1864. Over 500 African American men and other freedom seekers journeyed from Woodford County to Camp Nelson to enlist in the US Colored Troops in 1864-1865. Program attendees will enjoy the unique experience of discovering these stories on the grounds of the historic Huntertown Community east of Versailles. Huntertown Community Interpretive Park is located at 1546 Huntertown Rd.
