Birmingham leaders are proposing a $45 million investment to expand career training, modernize school facilities and prepare students for high-demand careers.
Mayor Randall L. Woodfin and Birmingham City Schools Superintendent Dr. Mark Sullivan unveiled the proposal during a Birmingham City Council Committee of the Whole meeting.
If approved by the full City Council, the plan would establish a new Future Ready Career and Innovation Center while funding improvements at Birmingham City Schools.
Birmingham City Schools already offers a variety of career and technical education pathways, with the proposed center designed to further expand those opportunities.
Approximately 3,200 Birmingham City Schools students are expected to participate annually, while the partnership also is expected to bring thousands of students and volunteers from across the region into Birmingham each year.
