According to city officials and legal analyst Royal Alexander, Louisiana law requires landlords to provide heating and proper ventilation, but not air conditioning.
In other words, if a rental property never included AC, Louisiana generally doesn't require the landlord to install it.
While air conditioning is not listed under Louisiana law, state statute does require landlords to maintain air conditioning in working condition if it was provided with the unit.
The Bottom Line For Acadiana RentersIf you're renting a home or apartment anywhere in Acadiana, don't assume Louisiana law automatically guarantees air conditioning.
