Lin temporarily blocked enforcement of the ban in March and now is deciding whether to permanently overturn it. The Claude chatbot maker sued earlier this year, accusing the government of unlawfully retaliating against the company due to a disagreement over appropriate safeguards on AI technology used by the military. Lawyers for Anthropic have said that a ban would result in billions of dollars in lost revenue. The California case is one of two legal challenges brought by Anthropic over being labeled as a threat.
