A new series of patches for the Linux Kernel could boost gaming performance on the Steam Deck and other Linux-based gaming handhelds with AMD APUs. They're not official yet, but Phoronix reports that they can boost low frame rates by over 30%. In one test, Vernet noted that the main Steam Deck CPU core was running at a median frequency of 2.43GHz, despite remaining loaded 98% of the time. Vernet tested the changes on a Steam Deck in the Civilization VI benchmark and found the CPU core now had a median frequency of 3.5GHz. The whole thing also needs to undergo patch review by the AMD Linux kernel engineers.
