It has been learnt that the union Ministry of Defence has approved the transfer of the land, a move expected to significantly strengthen the University’s long-term infrastructure and academic expansion plans.
Sources told UNI, “The land, located within the university campus, has remained under the control of the Army for several years due to strategic and administrative reasons.
However, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has given the final clearance and the land measuring more than 18 acres is expected to be handed over to the University soon.”
“The discussion around Jammu University and the defence land involves past civil-military liaison commitments for campus expansion and specialised academic programmes,” the sources added.
Sources said the prolonged issue witnessed several rounds of discussions between the University administration, the Jammu and Kashmir government, and the Ministry of Defence over the years.
