Investing.com -- Coinbase posted a wider-than-expected second-quarter loss and missed revenue estimates on Thursday, as weaker crypto trading activity and subdued market volatility weighed on results despite continued growth in its subscription and services business.
The cryptocurrency exchange reported a net loss per share of $1.36, compared with analysts' expectations for a loss of $0.01 per share.
Even as lower asset prices and subdued volatility weighed on transaction revenue, the company gained market share, expanded USDC adoption and lowered its full-year adjusted expense outlook.
Stablecoin revenue totaled $292 million, supported by record average USDC balances held on Coinbase products.
Despite the weaker trading backdrop, Coinbase said its crypto trading volume market share reached an all-time high of 10.3% in the second quarter, driven by gains in both spot and derivatives trading.
