A 36-year-old man who claims he accidentally killed his niece with a stolen firearm handed himself over to police this week.
Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the gun was stolen during a hijacking reported in Motherwell on the 27th of July.
Janse van Rensburg says the owner of the car had a revolver and a laptop in his vehicle.
She says the following night police responded to a complaint of a shooting in NU4 where they found a set of car keys and a revolver on the premises.
Janse van Rensburg says while police were processing the scene, they were informed that the suspect handed himself over, claiming that the gun went off while he was handling it.
