(ABC 6 News) — ABC 6 News recently reported that the Rochester Police Department leads Minnesota in drone usage, in part due to the department’s Drones As First Responders Program. Now, RPD is giving a little more insight into exactly how those drones have assisted in investigations. This month alone, RPD says they’ve used drones several times, including assistance in finding a person in crisis. RPD said the drones provide real-time location updates to responding officers that lead them to the person and help connect them with mental health resources. In another incident, RPD said drones helped find a domestic assault suspect, tracking the man with surveillance until he was taken into custody.
