A new CQC report rates the hospital and its surgery department as “requires improvement” for safety and leadership, warning there is an increased risk patients could be harmed. It says long‑standing problems in operating theatres and wards have not been fixed, despite being raised with hospital bosses for several years. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) visited the hospital’s theatres and surgical wards on 16–17 September 2025, triggered by an “aged” 2018 inspection, and rated surgery overall as “requires improvement”, pulling the trust’s overall rating down from “good”. While Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust remains “good” for effectiveness, caring and responsiveness, both the hospital and its surgical division are now rated “requires improvement” for the safe and well‑led categories. Longer-term improvements to our day surgery services will also be supported by the new Diagnostic and Surgical Hub once completed.
