Perhaps the protest would have been perfect had CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke been arrested as soon as he arrived in Delhi on June 6. That Dipke wasn’t arrested on arrival from the US, but was allowed to proceed to Jantar Mantar, was seen as proof of his political backing. Indeed, among the many heartening aspects of the Jantar Mantar protest was not only the way Muslims participated, but also that neither their religious identity, nor that of the rest gathered there, seemed to matter. Unable to ignore this historic success, the critics are now crediting it to the protesters, while their disapproval of the CJP remains. Instead of the thousand flowers we saw bloom at Jantar Mantar, a few hundreds of the same hue would have come there.
