The funding, secured through the Department for Education's Construction Skills Capacity Fund, will support the creation of new teaching and training facilities at the college's Colchester campus. The project will see a two-storey extension added to an existing teaching block, including a large construction skills workshop on the ground floor and four classrooms with breakout spaces above. The new 723-square-metre facility will help expand training in key construction sectors including bricklaying, trowel trades, retrofit and plant driver training. The expansion will also support housing growth across the region, including plans for the proposed Tendring Colchester Borders Garden Community. “As the largest provider of construction training in the East of England, this funding allows us to create even more capacity and the right environments needed to deliver high-quality education for current and future generations of students.
