Christine L. Matthews, 64, a lifelong resident of Dowagiac, passed away unexpectedly at Beacon Dowagiac Hospital with her loving family by her side. Born on October 25, 1961, in Dowagiac, Christine was the cherished daughter of Wayne and Patricia (Byers) Laylin. On August 17, 1991, she married the love of her life, Thomas Matthews, beginning a marriage built on love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Christine dedicated much of her working life to serving her community. Surviving are her husband of 34 years; Tom Matthews; four children, Heather (Austin) Wilson, Wayne (Shelby) Matthews, Keith (Anna Wurz) Matthews, and Teri Peters; nine grandchildren, Kenneth Wilson, Elleann Wilson, Sawyer Matthews, Faith Matthews, Lucas Wurz, Ben Wurz, Haileahy Peters, Abygail Peters, and Milana Peters; sister, Sheryl (Todd) Bounds; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
