North Carolina agriculture officials confirmed the state's first established presence of the invasive yellow-legged hornet at a home near Charlotte, WCNC reports. Previously, the yellow-legged hornet's presence was limited to areas near Savannah and Charleston, South Carolina. Their nests are notably larger than those of other hornet species, taking on a reddish, muddy color. Currently, these nests can be as big as a volleyball and can grow to the size of a pickup truck bed.
