Indianpolis man convicted in 2024 Christmas Day murderINDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis man, Derek McKenzie, has been convicted of murder in the 2024 Christmas Day shooting death of Cedric Crews, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears announced Thursday. McKenzie was found guilty of murder, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, and a felony firearm sentencing enhancement following a court trial. On Christmas Day, a minor disagreement escalated into an act of deadly violence that forever changed the lives of two families,” Mears said in a statement. “I am grateful to our prosecution team for securing justice for Cedric and his family”. According to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, IMPD officers responded to a home in the 4400 block of Kitley Avenue on Dec. 25, 2024, where they found Crews had been shot.
