Breckenridge Town Council unanimously approved changes to the town’s accessory dwelling unit code, eliminating longstanding deed restriction requirements. Under the new rules, homeowners may build unrestricted accessory dwelling units without placing a workforce deed restriction on the property. Town planning staff recommended the changes after determining the previous requirement had become a barrier to constructing accessory dwelling units. Officials said allowing unrestricted units could instead encourage more homeowners to add housing to the community while maintaining incentives for deed-restricted workforce units as an option. Town Council approved the resolution upon second reading at a meeting Tuesday, July 28.
