Wake County's Permits and Inspections Division has been named the 2026 Jurisdiction of the Year by the North Carolina Building Inspectors Association, recognizing the department's work overseeing construction and code enforcement across much of the county. The division serves unincorporated Wake County as well as the towns of Knightdale, Rolesville, Wendell and Zebulon, reviewing permit applications and conducting inspections to help ensure buildings comply with state and local building codes. The award is presented annually by the North Carolina Building Inspectors Association to a jurisdiction that demonstrates excellence in code enforcement, professionalism and public safety. "Receiving the Jurisdiction of the Year Award is a tremendous honor for the Wake County Permits and Inspections Division," Director Mike McLamb said. Wake County Commissioner Shinica Thomas said the department plays a key role in ensuring development is built safely and meets established building standards.
