GoLemon, the Lagos-based grocery delivery startup founded by former Paystack employees, is shutting down after failing to raise additional funding needed for its next phase, closing a two-year attempt to build a cheaper way for Nigerian households to buy food.
Jumia and Bolt both exited food and grocery delivery in Africa before GoLemon launched, citing weak unit economics and mounting losses.
GoLemon’s experience suggests a single grocery order can be profitable in Lagos.
“The central challenge was that we hadn’t reached sufficient order density for those contributions to consistently cover the company’s broader fixed costs,” GoLemon added.
In December 2025, GoLemon began supplying orders through Chowdeck, the country’s largest food delivery company.
