H1 nat cat insured losses at below-average $44B: Munich ReFirst-half insured natural catastrophe losses were about $44 billion, just below the inflation-adjusted average of $50 million for the first half of the year over the past 10 years.
The insured losses of $22 billion were less than the $26 billion average for the past 10 years, according to the report.
North American first-half natural disaster insured losses totaled $34 billion, below the average for the past 10 years, Munich Re said, without giving an exact figure.
In Europe, severe winter storms hit Portugal and Spain in January and caused some $1.8 billion in insured losses.
The Asia-Pacific region saw first-half losses of just over $1 billion, “significantly lower than in previous years,” Munich Re said.
