AI-fueled social engineering losses rise: ResilienceSocial engineering losses continued to climb as cybercriminals employ artificial intelligence to supercharge attacks.
Losses tied to phishing, social engineering, and transfer fraud in the first half of 2026 accounted for 85.3% of the total, up from 17.7% in first-half 2024, according to a report Thursday from Resilience.
“Attackers have used AI to sharpen social engineering across the board, from emails to voice deepfakes,” the cyber insurer said.
Just 2.3% of losses were tied to vendor incidents, compared with 81.5% of losses in first-half 2024.
It has made the oldest one, social engineering, more convincing,” Resilience said.
