Losses tied to phishing, social engineering, and transfer fraud in the first half of 2026 accounted for 85.3% of the total, up from 17.7% in first-half 2024, according to a report Thursday from Resilience. “Attackers have used AI to sharpen social engineering across the board, from emails to voice deepfakes,” the cyber insurer said. Just 2.3% of losses were tied to vendor incidents, compared with 81.5% of losses in first-half 2024. It has made the oldest one, social engineering, more convincing,” Resilience said.
