Krieger, 72, and his wife, Dr. Beth Krieger, operate Beautiful Memories Gemach, a free clothing pantry at Young Israel of New Hyde Park.
What began 16 years ago with a handful of donated clothing racks has grown into one of Long Island’s largest dress-clothing pantries, serving tens of thousands of people throughout Long Island, Queens and New York City’s boroughs, regardless of faith.
Krieger had no experience in clothing or social services when he started the pantry.

The pantry resembles a department store, with sections for wedding gowns, business attire, designer clothing, shoes, accessories and a men’s boutique.
