The NSW government has committed $270 million for the next 10 years to improve the help at hand for those who dial triple zero (000) during a mental health crisis. The funding supports a new model that connects people in crisis to a dedicated team of mental health experts when they call 000. Counsellors, local mental health services, or NSW Ambulance’s specialist mental health acute assessment team will then assess the patient’s needs and give immediate support. Where appropriate, police will attend emergencies and mental health incidents when they are the most appropriate agency.
