La Grande Observer
The La Grande City Council will hold a first reading and public hearing on Aug. 5, 2026, about the possibility of introducing a dedicated public safety fee.
(La Grande Observer/File)LA GRANDE — The La Grande City Council is considering implementing a public safety fee.
The fee aims to help close the gap between revenues and costs for providing essential public safety services, according to La Grande City Manager John O’Brien.
The ordinance would establish the public safety service fee framework, administrative provisions, accountability requirements and restricted use of revenue.
This would bring in a projected $540,000 annually, which offsets a portion of the city’s public safety expenditures.
