TOKYO, Japan – Apple will donate to relief efforts supporting communities affected by the devastating Kumamoto earthquake and its continuing aftershocks, Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook has announced.
Okay News reports that Cook expressed solidarity with people affected by the disaster, saying Japan holds a special place in his heart.
He also thanked emergency responders for their efforts to rescue victims and assist communities impacted by the powerful earthquake.
In a statement shared on social media, the Apple CEO said the company was thinking of everyone facing the aftermath of the earthquake and confirmed that Apple would provide financial support for ongoing relief operations.
The Kumamoto earthquake has claimed dozens of lives, injured many others and caused widespread destruction across parts of southwestern Japan.
