The council said its teams were emptying all litter bins across the town's parks and play areas when the scale of the problem became clear. It said the bins are provided specifically for rubbish generated while people are using the parks and play areas and are not intended or funded to be used for household waste. It added that the increasing disposal of household waste has already forced it to double the frequency of bin collections, but many bins are still overflowing. Residents are being asked to use another nearby litter bin if one is full or, where possible, take their rubbish home rather than leaving bags beside bins or disposing of household waste in them. The council thanked residents who dispose of their rubbish responsibly and help keep the town's parks and play areas clean, safe and welcoming.
