Former Olympian Chris Maddocks visited Bampton Beaver Scouts, where children aged between five and eight took part in racewalking activities before gathering to hear about his sporting career and Olympic experiences. Chris, who has visited the group on several occasions since 2013 at the invitation of Beaver Scout leader Dave Phillips, led a series of warm-up exercises alongside Dave before the children tried their hand at racewalking across the group's outdoor activity area. Using a laptop, Chris showed the Beavers footage of his finish in the 50km race walk at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Chris said the group, led by Dave Phillips and fellow volunteers, continued to offer children a wide variety of indoor and outdoor activities and welcomed new challenges with enthusiasm. The visit ended shortly before many of those attending headed home to watch England's World Cup semi-final against Argentina.
