Unlike traditional transportation projects focused solely on pavement, the West Seventh Street Master Plan is intended to balance vehicle traffic with neighborhood character and pedestrian accessibility.
“We’re not trying to reinvent Seventh Street,” Arnold said.
Today, drivers entering Seventh Street from Ninth Street often accelerate quickly through the corridor because of unusually wide travel lanes.
Average daily traffic counts show approximately 10,459 vehicles travel Seventh Street between Ninth Street and North Drive each day.
Meanwhile, approximately 8,993 vehicles travel Ninth Street between downtown and Seventh Street each day, meaning most motorists entering Hopkinsville already turn at Ninth Street rather than continuing straight.
