Bipartisan legislation introduced on July 27 by U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD) would require the U.S. Department of War to enhance national security by supporting the development of quantum technologies. “Quantum technologies are critical to the future of warfighting at home and abroad,” said Sen. Rounds, who sponsored the National Quantum Readiness Act, S. 5139, with lead original cosponsor U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT). “By codifying pieces of the Trump administration’s executive order, we’re kickstarting research and development of quantum technologies that can strengthen our defense systems,” Sen. Rounds said. “By prioritizing quantum technology ecosystems and developments, this bill advances both Connecticut’s technological advancements and defense workforce,” said Sen. Blumenthal. “It aids our military to be at the forefront of navigation and intelligence collection and our state as a bulwark of national defense.
