Vernon NewsGreater Vernon Water temporarily changing water source for parts of Lavington and ColdstreamWater source changingPhoto: The Canadian Press Fie PhotoIn an effort to support local agriculture during ongoing Stage 3 water restrictions, the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) has temporarily switched the water source for select Greater Vernon Water (GVW) customers in Lavington and Coldstream. Instead of receiving soft surface water from Duteau Creek, affected homes are currently getting hard groundwater from the Antwerp Deep Well. These particles can turn tap water yellow, orange, brown, or black and settle in the pipes. However, officials say that although manganese affects the look and taste of the water, it does not automatically pose a health risk. The water system will continue to be monitored by the RDNO and if high manganese levels persist, they will work with IH and notify residents immediately.
