Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has directed Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, to immediately admit a woman suffering from breast cancer and treat her under the mandatory 25 per cent free inpatient quota. Her counsel told the court that she was diagnosed with cancer and needed specialised treatment right away but was denied admission under the free treatment quota. Hospital received govt landCounsel further argued that the hospital had received government land on the condition that it provide free treatment to poor patients. It was also required to display information about the 25 per cent free inpatient quota so eligible patients could claim the benefit. Taking note of the medical emergency, the High Court directed the hospital management to admit the petitioner immediately and begin treatment under the mandatory free inpatient quota as per the applicable government orders.
