Visakhapatnam: In a major boost to railway infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh, Indian Railways has approved a Rs 299-crore remodelling project for the Visakhapatnam Coaching Yard under the South Coast Railway zone. Visakhapatnam Railway Station handles nearly 80,000 passengers daily and operates an average of 113 trains every day. Proposed upgrade to improve platform occupancyRailway officials said the existing yard layout often forces terminating and through trains to negotiate surface crossings, resulting in delays, reduced platform availability and operational bottlenecks. Electronic interlocking to improve operationsRailways will install a modern Electronic Interlocking system in the station yard to streamline train movements and improve safety and operational efficiency. Officials said the upgraded infrastructure will help reduce congestion within the coaching yard, increase platform availability and ensure smoother train operations.
