Prosecutors offered a plea deal Thursday to a 22-year-old Chicago woman who is facing charges that stem from an October 2025 crash on Interstate 88 that killed a 27-year-old Rochelle woman. Araceli Zepeda of Rochelle, a passenger in the vehicle Griffith was driving, was found unresponsive at the scene and died later that night. Griffith, Zepeda and an 18-year-old Rochelle woman, who was also a passenger, were ejected from the Mazda. Lee County Public Defender William J. Fawkes said that he met with Griffith previously at his office in Dixon. Lee County Assistant State’s Attorney Bridget Schott asked that Ackert order Griffith’s pretrial release conditions remain in place until that hearing.
