The Emmy-winning 2018 role Maya Rudolph refused to play: “There was no way”It might seem like the legendary role of Eve Polastri on Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s black comedy thriller Killing Eve was written for the inimitable Sandra Oh, but she actually wasn’t the first pick.
If the little-known comedian and actor Maya Rudolph hadn’t been so busy at the time of casting, then the show might not have become synonymous with Mrs Oh.
While the show was still in its early state, Rudolph was asked to play the part of the disgruntled British intelligence investigator tasked with hunting down the shapeshifting psychopathic serial assassin Villainelle.
But given the fact that Rudolph lives in LA and Killing Eve was set and shot in the UK, it was a much more difficult decision than simply jumping at the chance.
But then again, it’s difficult to imagine anyone but Oh in the leading role.
