The move follows a report published earlier in the year that found no current evidence of a threat to public health but called for more reassurance and data.
Cambridgeshire County Council’s public health team is carrying out a Community Health Impact Assessment (CHIA) covering Saxon Pit and the surrounding area, and an independent community survey has now been launched as part of that work.
Three businesses operate on or near Saxon Pit: Johnsons Aggregate Recycling, which treats incinerator bottom ash; Forterra, which manufactures house bricks; and East Midlands Waste Management, which imports waste to stabilise the pit face and has permission to recycle metal.
Public health officials also wanted to explore ways to strengthen policies and practices around waste and human health.
The newly launched CHIA survey is intended to support that work by capturing how people living near Saxon Pit feel the site is affecting their health and wellbeing.
