July 29, 2026 By D. D. MccannTonya Hall began rebuilding her health and life after connecting with the OhioHealth Wellness on Wheels care team during her stay at the Van Buren Shelter, according to a July 29 announcement from OhioHealth.
The mobile healthcare program provides primary care and other essential services directly into communities, serving nearly 1,000 patients each year.
"About three years ago, when I stepped into the Van Buren Shelter, I was a mess," Hall said.
Their relationship continued after Hall left the shelter as she found stable housing and improved health.
The OhioHealth Wellness on Wheels program aims to reduce barriers by bringing medical providers into neighborhoods where access is limited and cost may be prohibitive for some residents across central and southeast Ohio.
