ComEd restores power to over 90 percent of customers after Monday storm

July 29, 2026 By G. R. MendozaComEd announced on July 29 that it has restored power to more than 90 percent of the over 530,000 customers affected by Monday’s severe storms.
According to ComEd, crews have been working around the clock to remove downed trees and vegetation, replace thousands of poles, and repair damaged equipment.
Most customers who remain without power are expected to be restored by the end of day Thursday.
We now expect the majority of remaining customers to have power restored by the end of day Thursday.
The recent storm marks the sixteenth major weather event affecting ComEd customers in 2026—the highest number seen in two decades—with five months left in the year.
