Google said this week it has fixed a months-long battery drain issue affecting Pixel phones, though a number of users are reporting the problem persists even after installing the update meant to resolve it.
The company posted an update on its public Issue Tracker closing out the bug, writing that it had fixed the "Severe Idle Drain" issue, technically labeled "kepler_spi_irq_handler & gnss_ipc Suspend Aborts."
Google said the fix has been merged into the July software release for the Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 10 and Pixel 10a, while owners of the Pixel 8a and Pixel 9a will need to wait until a September update to receive the same solution.
Google has not indicated when, or whether, a fix will arrive for Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 devices, which were also reported to be affected.
Whether user complaints about continued battery drain subside as the July update reaches more devices, and whether Google eventually commits to a fix timeline for Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 owners, will be the key questions in the coming weeks.
